Down-to-earth, hahalarious, and cruisetacular are the three words that come to mind when I think of Matt Basford and Doug Parker, co-founders/hosts, of Cruise Radio based in Jacksonville, Florida. What happens when you place two cruise addicts into a studio to do nothing but share their passion with the masses? A radio show. Not only is it just a weekly cruise updating forum, but it's also the premiere cruise radio show online! Have you been tuning in? If not, you've definitely missed the ship and need to find your way to the next port... NOW!
Cruise Radio began in 2009 as an idea that wouldn't leave Doug alone while he was sailing during the summer of that year. In fact, he began plotting his idea into a reality while still on-board--using a cocktail napkin as his main idea-transfer agent. No longer a live FM radio show, Cruise Radio has been sailing full speed ahead becoming an instant internet sensation; the show has 125,000 listeners each week, and that number is on the rise! Each show is anywhere from twenty to twenty-five minutes long and gives listeners an in-depth approach on the cruise line industry and lifestyle. Did I mention they just celebrated episode 100? Oh yeah, these two guys have it going on!
Don't get it twisted, Matt and Doug are experienced professionals who burn midnight fuel to make the show the best it can be. Together, the dynamic duo has garnered nearly forty years of experience in radio, communications, and mass media. Not only do they have leverage on having a hit radio show, they take the popular cruise media to the masses, sailing the high seas from time to time. Both Matt and Doug share a passion for Celebrity Cruises; Matt names Celebrity Solstice as his favorite ship, while Doug gives bragging rights to Carnival Magic for now (he suspects his cruise on Allure of the Seas this fall may change his mind).
To tune into Cruise Radio today, be sure to check out their enhanced and innovative website. Also, be sure to sign up for the premium content--you can get exclusive access to interviews, news updates, and other cool information that did not make the actual show. I asked Doug what's the best reason to cruise in our interview this week. His response, a fellow question: "Where else can you go where you unpack once, get to go to 4-5 exotic places in a week without leaving your stateroom?" Well, who can argue with that? I know I sure can't. Be sure to not only catch some ocean waves, but some cruisetacular air waves as well. Your ship awaits, bon voyage!
