If I were to ask what someone's favorite thing about cruising is, I would guess food would be made mentioned, and could you blame people for saying so? Eating on the high seas is something that can be temporarily satisfying, but ultimately damaging when it comes to the scale, depending on how you chow down when on a cruise. Since losing 50 pounds, I have adopted a new way of living, but I have maintained the only addiction worth living for of course: cruising. Meaning I now have to get my addiction in line with my healthy lifestyle. Challenging? Yes... very much so! But I ran into two ladies on my last cruise, aboard Norwegian Star, who helped encourage and inspire me to keep fighting the healthy fight while on a cruise!
Cherie Lapierre and Donna Lima are two ladies who have recently lost 135 pounds together making Cruise Man 3000 official fans of the fat-burning duo from Rhode Island! Cherie, a seasoned cruiser, now steps on-board not afraid of what the buffet may try to tease her with. She's been down that road many times and sticks to her self-discipline--not over-eating just because she's on vacation. Her accountability partner Donna, new to the high seas, has her back 100%! Donna holds to the blood, sweat, and tears--packing them into her mind, even while on vacation. She believes we, as cruisers, who have worked hard on land with living healthy should not undo all the hard work by over-doing it on a cruise ship. And if you're not careful, you can easily undo what you've worked so hard for, as all three of us agree and know first-hand. Take a look at our 10 Healthy Cruising Tips:
- Hit the Gym
- Portion Control and Eat Healthier Options
- Drink Lots of Water
- Remain Active and Moving
- Have an Accountability Partner
- Do What Works Best for You
- Use the Stairs over the Elevator
- Stay Away from Alcoholic & Sugary Beverages
- Sign-up for High-Activity Shore Excursions
- Know that Calories STILL Count
So this skinny black guy may not be the voice you listen to when it comes to encouragement and advice in the weight loss realm, but you should tune your ears to these two ladies--they're dead on! They shared insight and gave perspective on struggles better than I could have ever worded or uttered. If you struggle with your weight, or just want to maintain a healthy life, know that YOU CAN DO IT! If you set your mind on this goal, and keep it set, YOU WILL see it happen! I stand here 50 pounds later, Donna, 75, and Cherie 60 to say IT WILL HAPPEN FOR YOU, TOO! Stay happy, cruisers and know your healthy cruising opportunities await! Cheers--Shon!
